The site is located on Jubail Island, Al-Jubail Island, Abu Dhabi. The site is a rectangular plot with an area of 1 650 м2. The plot is surrounded by a park on the north side, and by houses and a road on the south, east, and west sides. The territory has one main entrance from the south and an additional entrance to the park zone from the north.
Pre-project analysis showed that this site belongs to the 10a – 11b USDA, with soil consisting of sand.
According to photo fixation and topographic survey, the plot is predominantly illuminated in the future terrace area and parking zone. Due to the close proximity of the house and an additional building, more shaded zones will be added.
NUANCES
- Landscape and climatic conditions. This type of soil and hot climate is challenging for growing many crops, so plant selection was made with deep analysis and detailed selection in mind.
- Utilities in the zone between buildings. The placement of utilities in this zone, where a light promenade area was desired, was very dense. Therefore, an alternative design solution was proposed for the safety of the routes.
- Placement of floor-to-ceiling windows and compatibility with SAF. The planters in this zone in the form of wavy shapes were deliberately proposed at different heights. This solution took into account the adjacent placement of floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the view.
CLIENT'S WISHES
- Decorate the promenade zone (between the main building and the additional structure). Propose planters and vases in the promenade zone so that one can walk comfortably and widely without feeling obstacles, without sharp corners in the path. Important emphasis on plant height so that it does not look bulky.
- Propose shaded relaxation: a sofa group, a fire zone, a dining group.
- For lighting fixtures, as per wish – white body and 4000K.
- There should be no open soil. Only backfill/pebbles or an alternative solution.
- Place tall plants around the perimeter to block views from neighbors.
- Block views from the western neighbor.
- In the shower-waterfall zone, play with rhythm.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED DESIGN
“The Pearl of the Dunes” Garden (لؤلؤة) is a place symbolizing rare beauty and grace like precious pearls among the sands.
Green plants create contrast and remind us that even the harshest conditions beauty and fertility can be born. The wind, passing through the leaves, sounds like the whisper of waves, and the silence of the garden is like the calmness of the deep.
In the front area the circular flowerbed meets us. In the centre of this composition there is a sculpture resembling a drop of oil illuminated by a circular light below.
Walking along the promenade to the back of the property we pass by wave-like raised groups of ornamental herbaceous plants. The flowing forms create visual perspective that expanding the space.
The backyard terrace has a formal form centered on an ornamental plant with an openwork crown.
You can see a disc-shaped painting embodying a pearl with its iridescent texture and shape near the fence.
Green hedges create a multi-layered atmosphere along the terrace. The rhythmic canopy and tall groups of trees create shade in the passageway lending, giving the space a sense of privacy and intimacy.
